Understanding your pickleball rating calculation
DUPR is the official rating system used by USA Pickleball and many tournaments. It provides a standardized way to measure skill level on a scale from 2.0 to 8.0+.
UTPR is another professional rating system that uses similar mathematical principles to create accurate skill assessments for competitive play.
We use a simplified version of the Elo rating system, which is also the foundation for DUPR and UTPR calculations. This system adjusts your rating based on:
If you beat a higher-rated player, you gain more points than beating a lower-rated player.
Losing to a much higher-rated opponent has minimal negative impact on your rating.
Expected Score: 1 / (1 + 10^((opponent - player)/400))
Rating Change: 32 x (actual score - expected score)
For doubles matches, we use team averages to determine match difficulty:
Average of your rating and your teammate's rating (if provided)
Average of both opponents' ratings
This is an unofficial rating estimator.
